TRAINING NOTE ·
The Last HIke Before Nepal
Mourne Mountains

Today felt different.
This was the first time we had all hiked together, and it was also our final training hike before Nepal.
We covered around 11 km in the Mournes and took in three peaks along the way. There was something fitting about finishing our training on three peaks here before heading out to attempt three much bigger passes in Nepal.
The conditions, the climbs and the time together mattered more today than the distance. After months of training, planning, buying kit, testing gear and talking about the trip, this was the point where it started to feel very real.
Last night I watched Tenzing. It was incredibly inspiring. Seeing the story of Tenzing Norgay, Everest and the people who first stood on that mountain brought home where we are actually going.
In a few days we’ll leave the Mournes behind and head for the Himalayas.
Soon we’ll be walking through Namche, crossing Renjo La, Cho La and Kongma La, and eventually standing at Everest Base Camp beneath the mountain that has captured people’s imagination for generations.
I can’t wait to stand there.
There’s nothing more to prove in training now. We’ve done the work. We’re fit, prepared and ready.
